What triggers re-certification?

Re-certification is primarily triggered by the expiration or termination of previous certification. In the context of maintaining Diver Life Support Systems (DLSS), certifications are designed to ensure that divers are up-to-date with the latest safety protocols, techniques, and technologies used in diving. When a certification expires or is terminated, it indicates that a diver has not met the necessary requirements within a certain timeframe or has not maintained their proficiency. This system helps ensure that divers only operate within the limits of their training and are equipped with the current knowledge necessary to use the equipment safely and effectively.

Regular performance evaluations are part of the maintenance and improvement of a diver's skills but do not trigger re-certification on their own. Similarly, while a minor system malfunction might necessitate a check or review of procedures and equipment, it doesn’t inherently require re-certification.
